they will be poisoned by the oil spill and they will have a hard time cleaning the animals in the oil spill

I saw this on the news and one reason of this problem was the big boat was a singled armed gas tank. If it was doubled, then the boat has second defence so it is okay but it was single. In US they stopped all single armed and make them not able to go out. This was one of the major problem of ocean. I heard that they brought many ships form other place to clean but the time was very bad so wave was very high. One of the president thing guy went there and helped cleaning. There was a crash between a crane and a large boat. After the work finished. The 2 to 3 boats was taking crane back to some place but the rope was ripped and it hit a large boat. So the gas about 565 tons of oil spilled out. I want to go there and clean the ocean if I can. I think this was like second major ocean diseaster and also for korea, they have to fix the ship. Korea might have to listen to people saying about korea and they are thinking what happens if the people doesn't go to the beach. This event occured east of Korea Thank you

Well, it is sad news. I am sad for those tons of oils wasted, sad for polluted seawater and creatures, which got damaged of this horrible event. I am sorry for people who are volunteering for I cannot go and help them. So, I came up with a great plan. First, you get a splint. Light it up, and throw it in the middle of the ocean. I know this is truly stupid way, but in this stage there is no way to solve this problem at once. Maybe, we can take slowly and steadily to drag every oil from sea, but who will be responsible for destroying ecosystem? I wish this incident be settled soon as possible.

Those fools! Spilling oil everywhere in the precious ocean! All those migrant birds, fish, and the water spoiled! Spilling little oil is bad enough, but a whole tank of oil?! What were they thinking, just crashing and spilling them! Now how are people in the region going to live? They live by tourist, but now that the place is covered with oil, not many, or no one will go there! This is madness... I know that people are trying hard to get some oil out of the ocean and the beach, but it will take a long time unless the government hire more people to work there. Or use machines to take the oil out. But it won't be so easy... would it? I wish I could go and help, too... but it won't be easy -_-;;; Anyways... how is this problem going to be solved? Throwing a gian wool that absorves oil in the middle of the ocean? (joking) Hm... firstly, they've got to be more careful when they are working with oil tanks in the ocean. Secondly... the government should probably work on this case or even the volunteers would get tired, and stop helping. I cannot think of any other solutions...

When I first saw this last weekend, I was horrified to see all of the animals that use the ocean were covered in black oil. And the people had to keep on cleaning and cleaning but the oil will never be all gone. I think that the government could send more people to help the people at Mallipo beach because even though they have a bit of people, there are tons and tons of oil still coming onto the beach. The faster the oil is cleaned the faster Korea and the people of Mallipo will make more money. Since the oil affects the animals in and travelling to Mallipo, the cleaning of the oil should be a big priority. Also, if we help them then it will then, there will be more money for the people and the beautiful scenery will once be clear and beautiful. If the government took more interest in the beach, I think that the problem will be solved quicker because the government has more control and they can make people do this work. Even though I want to go and help them, I will have to miss school, but the ecosystem is more important than one human because it is something that lasts as long as this earth continues. I think that also, ships caring oil and other cargo should be careful and same with other ships that are going to get close to those ships.

Oh my… I had already known that oil spill was a big problem, not only in Korea, but in other places as well, but I didn’t realize that it was this big of a problem. When I saw the first picture, I at first wondered whether it was sculptures or birds. It’s really disgusting. I am really thankful that people are trying the get rid of those spills, but even though there are about 7,500 people and 105 ships clearing the oil wastes away, I still have a difficult time imagining them all gone. In the picture, there seems so much. At least people are clearing them up… If people continuing spill oil just anywhere, I think it would not only harm the world, but also the animals and us. We can see proof of that in the pictures and the quotes from the workers and the farmers near the area below the “Don’t Miss.” (We have been shoveling oil since yesterday, but the waves just keep bringing more oil.) I know this person who owns a factory. Instead of oil, it involves toxic water. He told me that the toxic is very dangerous so he can’t throw it, but has to clean the toxic water so it’s not so toxic anymore. Can you do similar things to oil? No? I hope that there is a way. I think we were told to read this because first of all, it is related to what we are learning right now, Korea. Another reason might be because we are living in Korea and should know what’s going on in Korea. I am kind of glad to read this article because I can know about Korea and what is going on.

Man! This is crazy. I mean 565 tons of crude oil? Wow. I wouldn't want to eat sushi from that kind of ocean. Well, the damage is obvious and has brought many misfortunes to the people of Mallipo. It is very sad to see all of those dead animals covered by the toxic oil. As the local residents said they have only scooped 5% of the whole thing and it'll take months maybe years to fully rehabilitate the area. So far, only solutions are shoveling oil and oil filters that are ran through the waters. But, the hard thing is protecting the oil from spreading to other beaches. Well I say good luck scooping to the people there.
Mr. Mcallister chose this because it relates to Korea, the country we are studying currently.
It is relevant to Korea's environment and how it is deteriorating from wars and many things.

Mr. Mcallister, I found a solution to this oil spill problem YOU REALLY SHOULD READ THIS ARTICLE http://web.mit.edu/newsoffice/1992/bacteria-0401.html
its the solution to all oil spills.

That is a lot of oil been wasted. Next time they should be more careful when they are carrying oil. Now because of their carelessness the ocean population would reduce a lot. Luckily, no one was injured. I pray that no one gets sick or injured when they try to clean the oil that spilled. One thing I like about Koreans is that they are always able to help each other even though they are not asked. Koreans have a lot of team work, because without that teamwork they wouldn't be able to help save the oceans. I wish they can quickly clean the oil away and make the air and ocean a safe. It is because without the oceans we wouldn't have fish.

I felt both horrified and mad when I heard that because of oil, lots of living creatures are suffering, including us. I once saw in T.V. and was so shocked to see dead birds and fish, dead above the ocean. The ocean looked so black and horrifying. I was sad of thinking how many lives are dead just because of pollution. I was mad at how the ship was so uncarefully made, which caused lots of people to suffer and many creatures to die. I didn't know that the explosion of ship brought such a big effect. I hope that the South Korea ocean can be cleaned quickly, so it can recover its original shape.

I thought that Korea was famous for being unpoluted. I was very disapppointed to hear that korea has the largest oil spill. Thousands of people used shovels and buckets in a massive operation to clean up South Korea's largest oil spill, which blackened beaches along the country's western coast.
About 7,500 volunteers, local residents, civil servants and members of the coast guard, police and military scooped up oil that began washing ashore at Mallipo beach Saturday from a damaged supertanker, the Coast Guard said. However when i heard that there are lots of people volunteering to clean it made me proud. The government should get a better grip on transporting the oil.
The Coast Guard said late Sunday that 565 tons of oil had been collected, which would amount to about 5 percent of the total spilled. Tides of darkened sea water started crashing ashore Saturday at Mallipo, one of South Korea's best-known beaches 95 miles southwest of Seoul. Seagulls turned black and fish farms were threatened along the coast. I guess they have to work on clean the enviroment because the animals are dieing. I hope they can once again make the beach into a clean well known beach.

That's sad how much oil was spilled. I was surprised how much oil was spilt. I was really surprised abou the 2.7 million gallons of oil spilt. I couldn't believe how much oil there was. I also have realized how much fuel we are wasting with these spills. I really hope that they don't happen in the future. They are devestating and harm nature.

I saw the news that oil spill at yellow sea. they spill aobut 10500KL.It's like stupid mistake. korea doesn't produce the oil so that korea doesn't have enough oil and wasted because of a little mistake.

I saw this on news few days ago and it was shocking. I never thought shipwreck were these dangerous and create this much damage. THe oil ship had a little hole in its side and then the oil spilled out little by little but soon, most of it was spilled and the ocean near it was all black. It was very thick and polluted already too much of the waterlife and it says it would take atleast 10 years of recovery to come back to its original life cycle. Some scientist also predicted 30 years. This was even more frightening. We won't be able to eat oysters and many fish and other creatures in the water. It was also filled with oil and numerous people are helping to clean the ocean and the oil that came up to the shores. They said that the oils would sink like golf balls and then later in the spring, it would come up again and float ilke lilipads in ponds. That would give even more damage and i think this is a really big issue in Korea right now.
This was relevent to our topic becasue we were learning about Korea and this kind of allows to learn about the ocean of Korea

Hello this is 01414 speaking. So listen up! and.. DO NOT GIVE ME THAT ATTITUDE!

I am devastated by this information. Oil spills are considered as one of the worst man caused natural disasters. It blocks off the sun so it kills the sea plants that provides oxygen for the other sea animals. Without any oxygen mised in water the fish sufficate and dies, killing the entire food chain and environment as well as the entire coast will coated with thick cancer causing oil. Korea is one of the countries that are forced to import all oil for that we cannot produce any on our land, and these accidents are inevitable. It is how we deal with such a catastaufy that makes the difference. I truely believe that if we all get interested and do all humanly possible actions we can minimize any long term effects, and it is what makes us different from the animals. We are capable of taking care of other animals. We should do whatever is possible to those wildlife damaged through this catastafy. WE MUST TAKE IMMIDIATE ACTION and this is when humanity take place. IT IS OUR COUNTRY PEOPLE! and it is not a stroy of some far distant away in the other side of the globe!!!!

YOU 02420 YOU THINK OF THE OIL LOST WHEN LIVES CAN BE LOST AND WILDLIFE IS DESTROIED BEYOND REPAIR?!? DO YOU EVEN CONSIDER YOUSELF HUMAN? This incident has caused scar that will take generations to heal, it will hurt lives to those who lives near them using tourest, or people who far there, or innocent animals who died without any idea of what is going on KILLED BY HAND THAT IS AS GOOD AS OURS!!! We must regret what we as entire human race had done to our planet.

Hi Guys

Thank you for the comments so far. It is a tragedy, but from what I see in the news people are working hard at cleaning and making good progress.

I saw this news before!!!!! My father also told me about what had happened. In my opinion the government should do something about the oil spill. The oil has been washing up to the shore, and the oil spill has killed a lot of living nature in the ocean.

I think cleaning up is a really hard thing to do like a doing something again to make it better. It is hard to correct the mistake you did, but it is easier to do it correct on the fist time. Like this they shouldn't have spilled the oil because a lot of worker work there and the workers need to clean it up. Which means doing the correction again. Water doesn't mix with oil, so the sea would look worse, but would be easier to clean up, but there is a mass amount of oil that has fallen, so i think it is going to be a hard job to clean it up. Lee-myung bak helped them doing, but i think he just did it to show to people that he did this and many other things. I think doing secretly is better and you will get a better reward. I think there is a problem about Lee Myung-bak and the company that someone owned. I think he tried to erase that in people's mind. i think every U.S army needs to clean it up becase everytime they do something with huge tanks they do those kind of mistakes. I think ocean is what korea got and we need to make it clean.

I think Mr. mcallister put this up because we are learning about korea, and what happens on korea. How this thing affected and bring the president guy to help. I think korea's president just do nice things infron of people. I think he wanted to show us that the role and importance of the seas and oceans, and somtimes island. I believe that we need to work harder on our society and natural resources. Oil barely comes out in korea so we need to make a good use of it.

I am surprised how they could let such a big oil spill occur. I saw this on MBC News, and the black seagulls looked devestating. The fuzzy oil running through the land looked disgusting. I almost puked when I watched it, for it was dinner time. This article was posted to show some of the disasters that occur which bring devestation to the natural habitats. There will be more endangered animals. Also the touring industry as well as the seafood industry will deteriorate. We are currently learning Korea, and I think this applies very well to what we do in class. Oil causes very great devestation and this article just shows how bad aniamls can be in such conditions. The bird was so black that I could not recognize it. This is how bad oil spills are. It totally ruins the environment and the natural habitats of many animals. Currently in class, we are observing the Korean War, but this article shows the modern Korea today, so I think it's very interesting! I hope next time the people will not tolerate those kinds of petty mistakes. They should be very careful even though they are sure everything is safe.

I can't believe that 565 tons of oil was only 5%of the total amount of oil spilled. I wonder what will happened to the sea right now. I think this could really destroy the environment of Korea or maybe even the other countries near us, because the oil can spread out to the Indian Ocean or Pacific Ocean. I think this isn't a simple problem. Every country might have to consider seriously about this problem later. The worst thing that will happen by this accident will be environment. From this, the seas in Korea are polluted horribly. The endangered marine animals could die from this. The sea bottom will be polluted by the oil, too. There were many birds died from the oil. The aquatic farms were ruined, too. Other things are money and time. It will take billions of dollars to clean up the mess. Also, the tourists stopped visiting Mallipo, so the hotels and restaurants can't earn enough money either. Many people who are volunteering to help should work for a long period of time. Also, the workers are just getting rid of the oil near Korea's seas, not the oil that went through the middle of the oceans, so they can't clean up everything. This tells me that the Earth is getting more polluted as days go by. I hope sometime later, we can get rid of all the oil.

I saw this event on the news and I thought this is gonna be really harmful to Korea. I actually don't understand that how can ships become unconnect and get crushed? They were suppose to check all the systems that they are working fine. It's a whole country's problem and this incident was totally a bad mistake. Moreover Korea is one of the water insufficient country and now a lot of part of the water changed into oil. Oil has gives very bad influences. Oil has bad component and bad smell. 565tons are alot. It is now spreading to other areas too. If this problem goes with no end it's gonna be a big damage. In this country, Korea, can't provide oil and this incident was a lot waste of the oil. This is an excellent example of the environment pollution. I think this can be one of the disaster. Mr.Mcallister put this article because these days we learned about Korea and we are in Korea. Also, because we are Korean, we have a lot of interest in our country's event. I hope this problem will get better as soon as possible.

Uh oh......
This is a huge thing. It's nothing like we can ignore. I heard about this, and I just saw a candidate for the next president in Korea, advertising(?) or showing that one of them is helping this situation out. Anyway, this is SERIOUS!! I saw the number for donating money for the people who lives around the sea on TV. I think the ship people has to pay a lot to the citizens in that region. I just knew that a oil spill can cause this much problem. It'll take more than a decade for the ecosystem to be healed. Many people are volunteering to help it out, but it would take so much time. All the food and living creatures are dead because of a mistake by a human. I hope this problem solves very soon and never happen again. Sea, and the water is polluted. However, I hope people who makes living out of that fishing and making salt industry will get paid enough.
I think Mr. McAllister chose this article definitely because it's something that's going on in Korea that is very, very, serious. The damage and money that's wasted by this event is too much. Mr. Mc wanted us to know and help or at least know whats going on.
This is about Korea, so it connects to our class because we are learning about Korea. Being a peninsula and having three sides of sea can actually influence in a bad way. This article also teaches us about Korea's importing, and the physical features as well as the natural resources of Korea. I hope the spilled oil wouldn't dig farther into the ground or the ocean.

THere were many indcidents about the oil spill, but I think this one that happened is a very big spill. This is a very big damage and will require many things to solve this matter: time, money, people, etc. It seems impossible to make an ocean better which 565 tons which is only 5 % of the total. And the tides and waves of the ocean will worsen it. I don't think you can solve this matter even with so much helping out. This damage would also have made a big problem to our sea food diet. All the fish and other sea animals were covered in oil and died. This makes us loses our sea food and sea food restaurants to lose their money. There is no good thing that comes out in such an oil spill. This incident really damages our environment and we have to do something about it before it gets worse or too late, that no one can do anything about it.

!!! This is terrible. What I got most surprised by was the 565tons of oil is five percent of the whole oile spilled. What that mean is that 565*20=11300tons is the whole oil spilled. The other thing I couild imagine is that the animals that have been living there will be home less and in the picture there is a bird coverded with oil and we could barely see the shaping of the bird. Now after the animals, there are humans. The people that lived near and had a farm, the farms all got destroyed. Also, if it was a other liquid, it would be better but it was a oil. Oil to run the car make the machine works. Not only that but the people nearby had to face a terrible smell and headches. Till, hear we think is bad but the worsest part is this. If there is something spilled, we could at least clean up and make better. But in this situation, there is 10735tons of oil left to pick up. Because, there is no way to estimate when this situation will end. One more disaster has to come to Korea. But, I believe that strong Koreans will able to clean up the oil and fight with the situation and make a new Life!!!
Go Koreans

Disaster it is. Let us exclude the loss of oil; some most precious habitats are severely damaged, and critical loss have occured to industries regarding to seafood and fish. Tourism also met their danger, and the oil that seemed to be so precious now looks like endless monsters. The most horrid thing of all is that it was simple to spill the oil(as you say, just spill it) but is very complex and laborious to clean it up. Coastal lines and beaches often have rocky or sandy terrains, and to clean the oil up here means to scoop the heavy sands up and wipe out oil from stone to stone. The current also made the oil's clean-up harder by spreading the oil into wide areas. Small drops clustered around and the only way to clean them was to use garments of some sort to wipe them off the water. Due to its complex terrain, the shores couldn't have any vehicles enter to help the process of cleaning, and only the old fashioned labor of people using their hands to do every task one by one was the only solution. Heavy loads of oil, cleared sand, and oily garments used to gather the oils were transported up to the road only by force of men. Now, this may sound hard, but it is still a case of places where the mainland people visited quite frequently. In island villages or coasts where people didn't heed attention very well, both workforce, supplies, and transportaion of the wastes lack, and still are one of the victims of the consuming oil. Despite the long time of cleaning, every high tides the oil comes out again and the same laborious days have to repeat again and again. This connects to our class in the fact that this is Korea, which we are studying and living in. This impacted us to know how crucial the sea, or the coast, was to Korea and how a single spill had doomed many of the families living along the coast. Really, many people already gave up their hope. I think Mr. McAllister posted this news because he wanted to impact us the importance of keeping the ships orderly, and how a single spill could shake the nation into chaos.

honestly, i didnt even know this was all happening until i had read the blog. I feel really bad for all those people cleaning up the oil. Also i feel bad fowards teh environment because they are suffering for the mistakes that we had made. Theres nothing that we cannot do that doesnt effect the environment, and we need to beware of that fact. The oil spill effect us in many ways. One being a financial problem. Because of the oil spill, not many shops and restaurants will be able to make money. The other problem, as i already had stated was the ecosystem. Many living creatures have died, and the ocean was polluted. We need to be careful of what we are doing. It does not only effect us, but the things around us as well. I wish i could go and help out the people cleaning the oil spill, but unfortunately i cannot. Hopefully there will be more people volnteering. Although we personally cannot do anything as students, maybe we can like organize some kind of donation this to this 'organization' (a thought) . So yeah. This "catastrophe" is a problem that is going to be here for a while. i hope that we can hurry up and clean this mess for our sake, and for the things around it.

Theres so much going on around us that we are not aware of, and this oil spill being one of them for me. How can ships just crash into each other like that and create a huge mess for us and the ocean? I mean, lets think about the other sdie for a minute. Many of the habitats in the ocean are destroyed because of us. many creatures have died becasue of us. We do not need another excuse for another hundred of habitats and creatures dead. i think that this is a really serious problem that we have. I personally dont know what to do, but we need to do something fast. I hope that we can hurry up and clean the mess so that everthing can almost be back to normal. I know that for 100 % that the environment cannot be exactly how it was, but i hope that it comes close. Im also hoping that many people will volunteer so that this problem goes away faster that it should tkae. I feel really bad towards all the animals dead. We should know that, the environment is dependent on us, and its up to us to keep it safe from all disasterous things.

I saw this on T.V and on the news everyday in Korea. I really feel that this is a terrible accident, and I feel sorry for the people who have no customers in their restaurant due to the oil spill. On T.V I've seen lots of people in plastic wear, gloves, and boots cleaning the place up. Everytime the tide comes, it brings in oil and tar. Then the people come clean it up. Then the next tide comes and puts the place covered in oil again. The people have grueling work to do. Some people said that the oil would all be gone in about 15 years. That is a LONG time. I think it will take less than that because of the people. I felt really bad for the birds that died (the ones in the picture). I worry about what happens to the plant life and animal life in Korea. I think this article was chosen because we are learning about Korea in social studies class. Also, we live in Korea. This relates to something we learned in class. (We're learning about Korea.)

helloooo Mr.McAllister~
Thank you for posting up a new blog for us=]

I've uploaded my comment for this blog already,
but it's not here ;;; I guess it was not uploaded properly so
I am uploading my comment again =[

Whoa whoa whoa. I don't know what more else I can say. I can't believe this incident has actually happened in Korea. I know it was an accident, but they should
have been careful about bring a lot of oil, especially through bodies of water. Korea already has a severe problem in pollution, and I think the oil incident has affected the pollution even more. I can't believe that it will take 15 years to recover. It shocked me a lot because that's a long period of time. I've seen in the news that a similar incident has happened quite recently in United States, and the oil was poured out to the water by the Costco company.
So, the country sewed the company a great amount of money, an amount that I don't know how to write it in words. I think they owed United States some hundred million dollars. However, the incident in United States was only 1/50 compared to the incident that occured in Korea. In Korea, the company who had this accident was Samsung, which is a huge company that is known for its name and I am ashamed that Samsung had an accident that destroyed our Mallipo Beach. I felt tragedy about the sea, because we lost so much because of one simple accident. We lost all the sea creatures and the birds that were near the sea were affected as
well. When I saw the pictures of the birds, I was disgusted by how humans can destroy the earth by snapping a single finger. Also, as I saw the news, I was worried about the people who would be dreadful because their job is related to the sea. There are many people in Korea who takes a part
in the sea, such as the fishermen, the women divers, and the people
who make salt. I feel sympathy for
them because it is their main job place, and they have lost so much
because of a single event that happened so suddenly.Seafood is a significant part of Korea's economy and I hope that the oil
incident would not have a big impact on our economy. Also when I saw the news, I was ashamed because a foreigner was helping us with the damage caused from the oil. I wish I could go there right now and help the people and the sea. This incident is a gigantic issue for the Koreans currently besides the voting of the president. I hope a good solution would occur, that would recover the things that we lost in a
second after years and years.

I also saw this on the news. This is caused by the accident of Samsung and the hong kong ship. The oil tank was created to improve the country, however, the exact opposite happened. It rather harmed the country instead of improving it. My church is planning for a service trip to the oil tank. My dad is planning to help on the oil tank. And so am I planning to help. Because of the one mistake, the nature is decreasing and becoming into ashes.

I saw this in the news and I thought it was very terrible thing to do. It was an accident but eventhough it was an accident it was terrible. The oil went into the ocean and the ground and we cant reduce the oil until the years need to pass 15 years from now. Im very worried about our ecosystem. Because of the oil the pollution will highly increase and the ocean will be dirtier and the occupation from the ocean will decrease because no one will buy anything.

After I saw this current event, I realized that I saw this in the news. This was a terrible trouble and a disaster to the fish and the workers who work in the sea. I think the big ships should've been carefull of those crashes. Because once there are enough oil out there floating on the sea, so much sea creatures will die and the wokers will lose their job. But the Korean are so good. Because the Koreans work as a group so good and they never leave someone in danger alone.

first of all

02371! don't copy my lone u fool
go home or go somewhere that i don't want to say

now, we got that all settled
... now where was i...

ah yes, the big oil spill. Sad, sad, sad, but not so sad. I bet that the worst thing that happened is that fishermen, aquatic farm people, and the neighboring people lost money and that some fishes and birds were screwed by the oil.
The hong kong fools were being themselves, fools, if i had a oil tanker, then i would put so much friggin protection because the steel prices these days seem like a joke when they are put next to the price of oil. They, rightfully, lost the oil because of poor quality. There were even some news about the captain of the ship being drunk and so didn't hear the oncoming barge, crane, barge-crane, whatever. So they deserved it, whoever >they< are.
Then again, we koreans have to clean up the spill and that is just crap. Why do we have to clean it up? Then again, i think that the koreans are being kinda fools too. They should put flamable chemicals into the beach and set fire to the oil so it all burns, AND THEN shovel the place of the ashes/destruction/ect. That would be more expensive, but it would get the job done quicker and without the labor of innocent koreans.
I think that its mainly the government that are fools. Governments never want to spend money, it says that the residents didn't even get financial aid. (they didn't spend enough money and brainpower on my idea as well) As for the animals, i would feel sorry for them but in the bible, it says that we are more important than animals so i don't really care much about these animals. If i were to feel sorry for any animal at all, it ould be the birds than the fish, at the first sight of a black oil cloud, the fish can dart all the way to New York City, but no, those fish fools stay and get 'wierded' by the oil. These birds were just nesting when oil hits them and then they get 'weirded', the babies that can't fly away. I saw on a news article about a baby bird that was caught inside the oil and was drowned in it, it was all covered with this black goo and greased up.
I guess this is sad...but not too sad
---
i think that this was chosen because this is CURRENT NEWS and more importantly, CURRENT BREAKING NEWS which is more drastic/exciting
---
this relates to class because we are currently learning about Korea

wow my family almost went to this. We were gonna go durin xmas break but we couldnt because we didnt have enough time. I think we could have helped and i feel really sorry for the animals who were either killed or lost their homes to the oil spill. 565 tons of oil is insane i can't believe they spilled that much.

Man, being an american, its awful to hear about all the oil wasted. The oil is going at 60-70$ per barel, and they lost a couple thou of them. But also the enviroment must have lost a great many animals and planets. When the oil mixes with the water, it becomes like sludge. You cannot breath thought it, and it sticks to every thing. It is poisenous if you swollow it. Water mixed with oil is deadly. That many tons of oil, wuold make many metric tonnes of dealy sludge.

I saw this on the Tv BY the entertainment channel. i guess people do mistakes sometimes and this case was that case. unfortunately, in this day, the wind was so powerful than normal days and everthing didn't really worked peacefully. in my opinion, they might had some of other reasons which they didn't told us! maybe everyone didn't really connected well. this really caused and cause a big damage to the people who are selling fish and those people who are living there. at this moment, many visitors are reducing but there are many people who are cleaning the oil. truthly, i would like to clean too but i can't go there. i guess i feel sorry to the old people that i might not be able to go... another problem is that SAMSUNG might be busy because the president saved all the money to his son's name and etc,..) and i guess the oil spill is Samsung's responsibility because the boat or the person is from Samsung so they might have to pay a lot of money. poor Samsung. some people in Korea says that samsung have to get out and be little bit down because samsung is so big that other businesse's are not improving. but how could we change,...? Samsung is or country's symbol!!!!! anyway, i hope that oil spill will improve a lot and to people who are selling fish could live better life.

i choosed that because that answer because that's what i thought and i felt like that
this would definitively help us to learn about how difficult is the life and sometimes we do some mistakes and we make a big damage
i pray that the person who did this mistake will get a new nice job !!!!

This has been a major issue to Korea. And a very big issue to Lee Myeong Bak for a beggining resident. The occuring of the oil spill would have still spilled even though the barge was double handed because the amount of mass the tanker had would be so sensitive with just a touch of a little boat and would eventually create an oil spill. This might of never happened if the tanker and the barge co-operated with each other in which direction they were going. And the result I think was a major issue to the farmers because farming is a living to them and all the fishes and plants have died because of the oil spill the government will not reimburst what has happened instesad they will clean up the oil which will take months. So I feel sorry for the farmers. But I also feel that we are kind of lucky when compared to pakistan's oil spill and our oil spill the quantity differs majorily.

this has been an extreme problem recently, and there seems to be news on this everyday now. This news is on newspapers,tv news, magazines, everywhere. At first i heard about this incident from my mom, but i didnt think that it was much of a deal. i had no idea how much crude oil was spilt into the waters, until i saw it on the news. I saw pictures and videos of the ocean and how there were black blobs of oil floating in the oil, like fat. it was very disgusting. since i am a vegetarian, i was a little worried in the beginning, because i thought that all the fish in the ocean would have died, since the oil could have damaged many organisms that live under water. i told this to my mom, and she said that it would be okay and i would have enough to eat anyway. many churches, organizations, students, etc. have been going to the shores of the sea and started cleaning the oil that was left over from the tides of the waves. my church members went there to help out clean up the mess, and i heard that some of the tcis staff would be going to help out, too. i also heard that students can volunteer to go, and i have been thinking about going to this. think about it : over 27 million gallons of crude oil spilt, and now its starting to disperse and soon it will be getting on the shores of japan! before this happens, i think that we need many people to help clean this problem up. i hope that many koreans and other people too would be willling to help clean this oil spill. i learned that there was another oil spill in 1995, but this time it was over doubled the amount of oil spilt. since this is a major issue here in korea, other ships came and started to clean up,too. i learned that the oil was spilt because there was a crash between a crane and a large boat and then the rope on the crane ripped, which hit a large boat. if this incident happened on the east side of korea, wouldn't busan have some problems with fishery?

It is a tragedy that all the oil was wasted and now people and the animals are suffering. I really feel bad for them. (Especially the people who are digging.) I also feel really bad for the restaurant people because business is going bad for them. I was even shocked that the president came and helped. I didn’t know it was a very, very major spill, but I guess it was. I saw it on the news before, but I really didn’t pay attention because I didn’t exactly know what happened. Anyways, this is a really major problem for Korea. And it also says that it would take a very long time to recover which makes it worse. Well, I hope the government takes more action by bringing in more people and machines to help out more. The more people and work done, the less time it takes. Which will eventually help Korea. I wish I could help in some way, but I don’t want to miss school and I don’t want to be dizzy from the oil. But if I had to, I would because the ecosystem is more important. I think that also, ships caring oil and other cargo should be careful and same with other ships that are going to get close to those ships so that there isn’t a problem like this again.

WOW. An extremely devastating event to happen, especially in South Korea. I don’t know if it was our fault or China’s fault, but I still happened in South Korea. Steve and I also went to the beach with my church and we helped clean oil. You had to wear these overalls and gloves and boots and masks. It was pretty uncomfortable but it was cold. We helped clean rocks and oil on the ground. It was pretty tiring and it took a long time to clean and to think that so much gallons of oil were spilled; I do not know when it will be all cleaned. I am happy that many Koreans are helping to clean the oil and I also am surprised that even the president had helped clean. I hope that many animals won’t die and the environment would not get damaged a lot. I feel sorry for the restaurants that are near the beach because many people would not come to there restaurant because of the oil spill. Also, many animals had died so the restaurants who sell seafood would not be able to sell their sea food because they will be dirty or dead from the oil. I hope that God will help the beaches of South Korea become clean and that the oil will be cleaned fast. I think that this was posted because we should learn what is going on in this world. Also, my parents told me that the teachers in this school said to watch CNN because it is good for us. This event also happened in South Korea so we should know about it. I hope that when I went there to help with Steve, I helped at least a bit and made a difference in the amount of oil.

This was a really bid event because the oil polluted the ocean and it ruined our beautiful ocean. It was an sad event. I heard that it takes 10 years to restore the ocean. I feel bad because I couldn't go to help. Also I fell sorry for the people living there because now no one is going to buy the things that were cought in the ocean, although the fishes doesn't have any problems who would like to eat a fish that was drop in oil water? I wish that it gets restored quickly as possible.

Sorry Mr. Macalister!! Can you now give me a better grade? And I did bloge eight!!! How come you gave me F!!! Why do you hate me so much!!

Wow! That's so terrible that all that oil has been spilled. It killed all the fish and everything living near where that happened. I heard about this oil spill from my friends and I think a lot of them went and were one of the people that helped to shovel all the black oil from the beach that it got the worst on. I knew that it was pretty bad but I didn't know that it was from a long ways away so it must have covered so much water and killed so many living things. I"m sure many fishermen from that area are probably bumbed out because now they can't go fishing there anymore. I hope that they can clean it up fast so that people can use that beach again and fish can start living there again.
Mr. McCallister chose this because it's something that just happened recently and we're learning about Korea in class.

I'm so sorry for the late comment on this blog, I really thought that I had already done it. sorry=)
