The first comment is that this is tragic. A 7.8 magnitude earthquake itself is catastrophe, but striking one of the most densely populated part of the world! Casualties and damages must be great, for people and structures are so densely located. Also, it wasn't a minor earthquake, but one near to the highest magnitude on the Rictor Scale!! However, I see how immediately the government responded to the disaster. I couldn't say what they truly think in their minds, but the important thing is, their actions were taken immediately. It is right, in my opinion, that they are putting "all out" efforts to help the people. I think Mr. Mac posted these photos and articles to tell us about a catastrophe that happened to a very close country. This also relates to our class because it is deeply related to China which we studied at the start of the year. This event, in my thought, would probably take a big part of China's history, and is an update we have to know for the further knowledge about China.
Oh my gosh, I really can’t believe that so many people and so many damages came through one earthquake. I was so shocked and quite depressed that many teenagers were harmed because they were at the schools when the earthquake, which had a magnitude of 7.9, hit. I think the sadder thing is that the children did not know what to do during the earthquake, like the teacher in video 4 said, because the last earthquake hit in 1970, so they never experienced one and never thought of what to do during one. I think if they had learned and knew about it a bit more, more people would have survived, like the man in the 2nd video. I also think more people would have survived if it wasn’t for the heavy rain, which delayed the rescue teams. I am really sad for the people there because they still don’t know what to do after the shock and because they are anxious to hear whether their loved ones survived or not. I think this whole incident is really depressing and sad. I think that people should learn from this experience and get ready for anything before hand, like practicing what you should do during an earthquake. I think our school should do it too because once in a while, Korea gets earthquake too, but not a big one thankfully. I think it is horrible because the Olympics are coming up and China is experiencing all these terrible situations.
I think by pubishing this post, we could see how dangerous the earthquake is. Everyone thnks that earthquake is just ground shaking and nothing will happen. But actually, what eathquake is that it forms waves from the focus and shakes the ground hard enough that the buildins base can;t hold it. Like tall buildings, when earthquake happens, they will easily fall and such apartments. 7.8 power of earthquake depend on where it is. The earthquake in the most populated country!!! It would kill so many poeple and lost. China is not so far from Korea and there is much possibility that earthuakes could happen in Korea. It was big disater like KOREA'S Taehan oil spill. The similar things with tweo problems were that the solutions and resuce teams and government tried to save people as fast as they could. Now, becase of this situation, we could know that how dangerous KOrea is by earthquake. First, Korea is long narow and sticking out penisulla so especially south Korea could even get ripped off. Also, from southwest and east, China and Japan, surrounding Korea. Like the Gwangju Massacre in Korea and Tietnum Square massacre, this disaster will last for several yeas to repair and recover all the damages.
with just a single earth quake, so many people died. i wonder how it would feel to lose someone in an earthquake like that, unsure whether that person had died. When you have to keep your hopes up to say to yourslef that he is alive. Maybe you had plans like having a meal together or if it was his birthday and you had brought a present for him. If you were engaged and you were really happy together and you knew that you would be happy together for the rest of your life. If a child lost her parent in the earthquake, his life would be ruined, and think of the parent if he had survived, and knew that if he would die, his son would have no future. If you think about things like that, and you really want the time to go faster, then it will feel as if time is going slower. The thought of wanting to live again but you you have no hope. If you're in a group and you try to keep your hopes up by encouraging each other and then one of your new friends die. to actually see him die and rot while you're alive will make you so stressed out. With situations like this, i think we should think about the things that people are feeling and don't want to talk about so that we can find out what they really felt like trapped in places like that,
I am so suprised that single shock of 7.8 magnitude earthquake had killed more than 12,000 peoples. I didn't know that earthquake could killed that many peoples. Also it hit the most populated country in the world. However, there were lots of kids who had died or injured because they were suprised and they didn't know how to behave when the earthquake happens. I think this is the reason that people had died so much. I think this had teach them about earth quake. I hope this would not happen again. And if happens again then they should conduct better so there would be less victims.
I heard about this earthquack. This is one of the worst earthquack in China. The Chinese built buildings so weakly that many buildings were collapsed. Many students died because of the shools' walls were so thin. This is one of the worst effects of this earthquak. Like in Japan, they built buildings strongly. They also taught students to survive when the earthquack came.
Japan has not many victims even though had stronger earthquak.
I saw many pictures about this earthquack. This happenings is so terrible than I have imagined. Many people lost their legs or arms, lost their family. Especailly, China has 'one child
'policy. Many parents cried and they shocked. I think after this happening, many people will complain about this disaster, because the many houses and schools were collapsed, but the government buildings were safe. Through this, China government will repent themselves that they didn't care about their people well.
This is a quite unusual turn of events. Earthquakes bring up images of the San Andreas Fault line but not China. I'm not sure but a 7.8 magnitude Earthquake is panamonious catastrophie. There's all these soildiers and aid agencies helping but there is so much more work to be done. Its estimated to be about 12000 killed but if help doesn't reach the ones that are just buried, the 12 grand will rise. There's probably more in the first place because they can only estimate by accounts of who would be there at that time. Many others could be stuck/killed by the quake as well. Its a bit ironic that we would read books for someone's house getting flooded for an hour or so but do nothing for people whoes houses have been completely destroyed as well as some lives. Its shocking that an earthquake of that strength would strike so close to a city. It is also worse because there was the rain that not only delayed help, but could also make it harder when they do start moving the rubble. The epicenter was almost right on Dujiangyan. Since one report said that the last earthquake was in 1970 and that barely anyone remembers it (the accurate account is 1976 in Tangshan), so they were prety much caught off guard and unprepared. I feel sorry for the ones that are still burried, especially the hurt ones. The government is trying to cover their imcompetence to the public though. They have the largest amount of people in the world and they say that they can't handel it. They could simply create a bunch of volunteer rescue groups. Either that or send at least 35-50% of the army to help. A disaster such as this would certify as a national crisis and the government should make this top of the top priority. Its a releif that it didn't strike a bigger city like Beijing or Hong Kong. Had the epicenter been close to those places, there would have been a lot more destruction and lives lost.

I think that this article was chosen because this is big news, there wasn't an earthquake this large anywhere for some time. It would be seen as an unfortunate turn of events. It could also have been chosen because this could affect/effect the Beijing Olympics.

This had relevance to what we had been studying in class by geothermal energy. Earthquakes, caused by the shifting of tectonic plates, is caused by the Earth's mantle's geothermal energy.
I have a lot of feelings about this earthquake. Some Korean people might believe or often make a joke that this earthquake happened because China was causing problems to Tibet and Korea. China was giving pressure to Tibet and some Chinese gangs came to Korea and messed around about Tibet and they beated up the Korean polices severely. So some Koreans think Buddah has shown his wrath to China for causing problems to Tibet and Korea, which was the perfect day to cause earthquake on China; the birthday of Buddah, May 12th. It was quite amazing and interesting. It could be true; you never know. Anyway, some cruel Korean people who had bad feelings about China think that China deserve it because Chinese people beated up some Korean polices and China helped North Korea, because they were communist countries. Some people call Chinese '짱깨'or '빨갱이', which is a bad way to call Chinese people and the second word means the Reddies(?), I guess they call them like this, because the communist flags are mostly red. Anyway, I feel bad for innocent Chinese people who died and I think Korean people who are cursing about all the gossips about Buddah's wrath should stop.
Uh ohh.........this is sooooooo sad. Ive heard about this in the dorm and i knew it was very serious, but now that i see the real influence of it, i realize that it is so much more than i thought. I think the damage was much more painful, harmful and panicing becuase this was a very large scaled earthquake. for a decade, this sort of earthquake didn't happen in China. Especially in this region, i don't think many people are familiar with earthquake because they haven't experienced it before. However, throughout China, this accident have caused a lot of problem and i just hope that there aren't people who died form it or got injury. also that the aftershocks wouldn't be very bad and everyone will be safe and not trapped under the buildings.
This is one of the biggest event that is going on in the world, so i think mr. mc wanted us to know about it becuase it is very serious, it is our neighboring country, there is going to be olympic there, and because we should be aware of it too.
This connects to our class because we have learned about China but more importantly because this sort of disaster is occuring in some of the islands that we are learning in class. I hope the people in these regions heal fast and learn from the accident so that next time, it wouldn't be as bad...
China has a large population that is spread out. Therefore the government will have a hard time trying to deal with saving these people because the casualties will be spread apart. China is so large that the government has to move from region to region helping the people. I had found this article especially interesting because I wanted to observe the government's response: How fast and effective hey would respond? After reading this article I gained the knowledge that China can respond quickly to problems and take care of its vast land and people. I think the problem will be solved soon because China has opened its arms to financial aid from other countries. The earthquake had a magnitude of 7.8 which is devastating enough to break down buildings. Thousands of people died and the earthquake had a wavelength that was long impacting many cities. It was heartbreaking to read how one man in particular could talk to his father by cell phone but could not reach him in the debris covering his body. Chinese government is sending soldiers to rescue the many people that are still living under the wreck. This event is very historical because it was one of the most devastating earthquakes. This article was primarily posted to show us China's response and potential in dealing with problems in its own country. It also is significant because thousands of people died due to the earthquake. The distribution of population in such a large country can be a barrier to dealing with problems in regions such as earthquakes. This article showed us that China can deal with these problems quickly. It relates to what we learned about China such as overpopulation and vast land. The article depicts China's response to this issue which shows that China can take care of its vast land and population. If we think optimistically, it can be beneficial because it decreases the population by thousands.
There had been so many articles and news about this tragic event. I saw in the news that a school had cracked down and that many students are buried under what is left of the buildings. And then it said in the newspaper that at least 50,000 people are dead. It also said that China's GDP will go down 2% becuase of this. Such a sad event.
The earthquake that took place in China was..7.9 in the Richter's scale!! That is like 600 Megaton of TNT, which is about 120 of the world's strongest hydrogen bomb detonating in one place at the same time! Think of that! About 2.4 EJ (exaJoule) equivalent to 2400000000000000000 Joules, which can cause significant damage to the immediate environment, and is said to occure only every year or so. I feel terrible for those who lost their homes, friends, and family members and I believe that the money that is now being collected for Myanmar should be sent to Sichuan instead.
P.S. I actually felt one earthquake in my life, the one that took place in Korea of 4.8 in magnitute in an isolated area 23km off 강릉. It took place in January 20th, 8:59:51 P.M. I was watching television and the TV shook and I felt like as if shaking, and despite the fact my parents didn't hear it, the news came up within minutes on TV and proved me right.. HEHE....
This is such a incredibly bad event that has happened and I am so shocked by the amount of casualties and missing people that there is as a result of this event. Some of the videos that I watched were very disturbing because of the damage that had been done in the areas where the video had been taken. It is scary to think that such an earthquake took place so near to us and that if it had decided to be that much further east, it could have been us with all of the damage and destruction in our lives. This relates to our class because of the fact that China is so near to us and we can reach out to them by raising money for the earthquake relief so that the people who have had so much destroyed by the earthquake and aftershocks can get some help and support. It is so sad that so many loved ones have been killed by this natural disaster and I pray that the people who are missing right now will be found by the teams of people who are out there trying to help as much as they can.
In one city it said more than 18,000 people die and still trapped on the buildings. This earthquake brought lots of death and sadness to china. 7.8 magnitude earthquake. Wow it is such a big earthquake..... I saw so many articles, news, and everytime when i see or hear about this earthquake, I feel i have to pray about them...
It seems that many natural disasters are happening these days. In Revelation, when it is time for the end of the world, many natural disasters and deaths. Maybe it's time.
I feel very bad for the people who died from the earthquakes in China. I believe that the rate of the earthquake was about 7.9 which I heard was very strong. I hope many survives from the earthquakes.
This is really said. 7.8 magnitude earthquake is pretty strong earthquakes. I have seen this china earthquake many times in the korean web-site I go into every single day. First, they have said that mant people have died but still osme were saved. When I saw the news, they said 32477people have died and 220109 people were injured from the earthquake. They have rescuded 21566 people and 205371 people was ordered to hide and run away. I think that is really said that many people have died so many families and people will be suffering but I think that China once again had the chance of reducing population. Also if this was God's will then China must be doing something worng. Because in one news, they have said that China had the diseases that was killing many childrens. If that earthquake occurred in Korea than we all died because the country was so small but they were lucky that their country is big. But I hope that they could recover fast and get ready for the olympic.
This is a tragic loss to China and a horrifying event. I knew that the damage was great but seeing the middle school and how horrible the state of the students were shocked me. I never expected them to look so pale and dead. And it suprises me that we could have been in the same situation. To experience such a strong earthquake would have been a scary and horrible experience for them. I think that since that China and other countries are acting quickly on such a tragic event, it will relieve the minds of the people's because they are not consistently worrying about all the ifs. I feel bad because the people who are safe from being under a building are not safe from the rains, that is to come and the harsh weather. I personally hate earthquakes especially when I'm in tall buildings. I remember that there was a earthquake in Korea last last year and I was in the 4th or 5th floor of a building and I could feel the shaking which made me think, what if the building claps? It thankfully didn't! Even though I'm used to earthquakes from California and Japan, I never was in a situation that badly, except in Japan there once was a huge earthquake but I was really young so I don't remember. These people wouldn't have the time to think about what ifs, the what ifs were answered before they could be safe.
This relates to what we are learning right now because we just learned about the sinking islands, and this is a natural disaster we cannot prevent.
This news was everywhere and it was like the top issue. This even happened in China and China is going to held the olympic, but there are a lot of conflicts or problems for them. This earthquake is one of them. China built their great stadium and it is one of the beautiful and gorgeous stadium. Now China has to spend their money on the recovery and some people might be scared to not send their olympic players because China has earthquake problems and human-rights problems with the tibetans. Chinese are beating down tibetans and other countries are scared of Chinese beating because that is against the human rights. I think this earthquake wasn't those little sissy ones, but a huge one that could kill thousands of people. Actually something worse is that people are jammed inside the building and they can't do anything. i believe government would do something because their citizen is always the first and then it is the others like the olympics. I really want to know why there is so many disaster when China is developing and becoming a peaceful country or at least in the outside by holding the olympics. So many people are dying and actually some people are trapped inside and i think that has happened because of the bad quality of Chinese buildings. I believe that China is working hard, but they should work on place where it is not developed and try to equalize all the city except few. I actually have one question. In the photos there was one building that collapsed, but next to that building there is a building that is not actually get impacted. Why would that happen, because usually if that building totally crushes the next one should at least crush down the half of it?? Can you please answer this question. This was quite meaningful and as your style there were a lot of photos, but it kind of looked happy because it had all those sun shining and it didn't look like a place of disaster if there wasn't the crushed buildings.
This earthquake in Sichuan province was such a tragic. So many people died because of this one earthquake. I heard that it was 7.8 magnitue earthquake and thousands of quake aftershocks were generated. Even afgershocks were 6 magnitude. However In 2008, Beijing was planned to hold oylmpics but now they are having hard time to get rid of all these problems. It is not esay to build up everything back. Important thing is that so many people died or lost their families. This time, even if the government tried to avoid big disasters, because if was too high magnitude, I think they couldn't help on anything. I think Mr. McAllister posted these videos and pictures because we learned a lot about Asia this whole year, and Korea is close to China. Futhermore, the earthquake in Sichuan province was such a huge and bad incident that happened through the world. Even we didn't feel it, the quake traveled to Korea too. This earthquake will be left as one of the biggest tragic incident in China's history. In Japan, because they always face the earthquake through many generations, Japanese build building very strong and also they are educated well on how to cope with earthquake from young age. I think we should help China to get better with this situation.
That is really sad news. Some Chinese students and teachers died from this 7.8 magnitude earthquake. This is one of the saddest tragic events I have ever heard, I wish that the families of those who died can think of the death in a positive way even though it is hard. With the rule been made by the government (a family should have only 2-1kids) many parents have lost 2 of their kids which is really sad. I pray that the will be lots of survivors left and that God will comfort the families of the lost ones.
There was a massive earthquake which happened for a whole minute destroying buildings down. Thousands of people are still beneath the ruined buildings. In one city, Mianyang, near the epicentre, more than 18,000 people are said to be buried under the rubble, state news agency Xinhua reports. This caused thousands of police men to search day and night causing the government to become dizzy. People say they do not want to go back to their homes because everything is destroyed and that it will give them bad memories. I believe that Mr. Mcallister posted this article because he wanted to tell us that there are losts of tragic events happening therefore we should always be thankful.
I heard this news all the time when Im walking in the road. Its a large scale of earth quake and 1/3 of Korea's population for example, is dead in China so, it is a really tragic thing to happen. THe damage that earth quake made is incredible. I saw the pictures and the articles and it was very sad thing to happen and there was a woman at the age about 60, she was caught in the ground for 72 hours and it was very hard for her to breathe. I herad that and it was very very bad thing and its kind of a end of the earth. THe nature is giving us warning.
It was a horrible sight to see the death of so many people happended because of this 7.8 magnitude earthquake. There were big damages to both the land and people. I think if they had stronger foundations for the buildings, less people could have get injured. They should have been more prepared. What terrified me the most was that I heard that the area of damage of the earthquake is similar to Korea's land area! If the earthquake happened in Korea, the whole country could have been destroyed...! Anyway, I felt so sorry for people who died or lost important people because of the earhquake. I hope that people will be more prepared so that this kind of horrible disaster will no longer happen.
To have an earthquake that big happen in china, is almost undiscribable. Also to know that people have hardly felt earthquakes in that area, also adds to the saddness. Because if people have never had experience with earthquakes, then they are more likely to die. It's sad how many people died from that. And yet, that earthquake was only a 7.8 and the largest recorded earthquake was 9.1 or something. To think what would happen if a 9.1 were to strike China would be unimaginable.
This is very sad... So much people died from the the strike of earth quake. I guess the Chinese just couldnt do anything about it because it was sudden. When I see these tragic happening to China, I just think that I'm lucky to be in Korea because Korea builds buildings much stronger than China. I predict that the Chinese people just couldnt think that this huge earth quake that will affect so many people will strike them. I've heard of so many news about this before this article. How thousands of people died. Also for very few people how they survived under collasped buildings terrified. I think the main cause of so much people dieing was because of the weak buildings. Even though if there is a huge earh quake like this I think there wouldnt've been so much dieing of people if the buildings were stronger.
Sometimes we see things that go on in the news, and we become so indifferent that we don't even care about what happens in the world because these earthquakes, suicide bombings, wars, storms, etc. happen every day. However, we should change this and we should be compassionate towards those who were involved and were victims of these horrible events. This tragic earthquake in China killed thousands. This morning, I heard that there were at least 4000 orphans, due to this earthquake. 4000...imagine. Imagine if you were one of these kids. The pictures and video footages of the earthquake and searching for the survivors really makes me sad. Imagine if you were one of the kids who became an orphan, how would you feel????????????????
It is really sad to see so many people dying with only a single natural disaster. More than 12000 people? How can I imagine that? It must be heartbreaking if a student in our school dies. It will be truly sorrowful if whole students in one grade die. But 12000? Wow, perhaps it would be not that unhappy for that everyone near people dies fairly. From this kind of disaster, government and people can make an improvement of prevention and management for natural disasters; however, if people keep thinking that doleful disaster like this will not occur around us, there might be no ends of death from no preparation.
I was so surprised by this. It was amazing how so many people died because of earthquakes. It's so tragitic that the earthquake occured in most populated country. It's so depressing how so many people got injured and died because of this earthquake. It would have been better if the children knew how to behave and act in those situations.
This apocalyptic catastrophe has been quite enough to China itself, because the the last couple months or so China has been concerned on the dispute between tibet on their independence which wasn't approved. And also the olympics which is held every 4 years is being placed in Beijing China, which is a very big event currently, it just doesn't seem to be China's year. This monstorous earth quake had hit a richter scale of 7.8, which is higly dangerous and went beyond the 2nd most biggest earthquake in china in 1976 which hit a richter scale of 6.6. There has never been such an earthquake since half a decade ago. Even though China got contribution from other countries China I think that China has a lot more challenges and responsibilities to take for themselves. I also think that China's population has been highly effected to this date leaving a memorial event in the future.
Whoa. I can't believe that the earthquake has actually happened in China. I have heard about the earthquake incident in China from our dorm and at school, but I did not know that it was huge and heartbreaking like this. 7.9 magnitude! I cannot imagine how frightened the people would have been, realizing that there was a sudden earthquake and knowing that they may loose their lives. It is really sad to hear that thousands of people were killed, and that the death toll is increasing as each day passes by. I think many people in China right now would feel that it is unfair that they have to loose their family, friends, and people they love from a "sudden" incident of an earthquake. I have heard from my dorm that there were people of our age (teenagers), whom became homeless because they lost their family members through the earthquake. Also, I heard that some normal students in the dormitory, just like us, and was killed, not knowing that they would go through a such tragic event that day. It must be very difficult for teenagers to loose their loved ones and to become homeless, since we are in the age that is needy of love. I remember how Ms. Amy, our RA said that she could not imagine losing all of the dorm kids in one day. I totally agree with her and I think none of us can understand how painful and heartbreaking it is for the people in China currently. I cannot imagine to loose all the people I love and continue on life, or either becoming dead in a second. In addition, I think it's amazing how there were surviors of the earthquake. It is astonshing how they continued on their life, never knowing when they would be rescued. I know about this one survivor of the earthquake, whom survived in the earthquake for 3 days and was rescued. This person had continued on his/her living by waking up at the cell phone alarm in the morning and drinking small amounts of water the person had access to. Also, realizing that he/she was close to some people, they had conversations and encouraged one another to be rescued, not dead. It really struck me when I heard this story and I don't think I will be able to be courageous and strong enough to go through the same event as the surviors have. I am hoping that the rest of the survivors (estimated to be 18,000) of the earthquake would be saved and cured, who are still trapped underneath buildings. I feel sympathy for China since things were going well for the country, and they have an upcoming event of the Beijing Olympics 2009. I hope things solve out well and that many people around the world would contribute in order to help the Chinese affected from the earthquake.
This is such a shock to me because I have never seen so many people get killed and injured by an earthquake. I felt really lucky when I was watching the clips and reading the articles because I just imagined about how it would feel like to be one of those suffering people in China. I wonder why there was an earthquake so suddenly. It is such a sad thing to see people who are buried under the ruins of the buildings. In the video clips, the people who were being pulled out of the holes looked very lost and their faces didn’t show any emotion. It was very surprising because I thought they would be crying and sick and just really sad or angry. Maybe the shock was too big…Anyways I have never actually been in any earthquake before but when I was watching the clip about the students and how they never experienced an earthquake either, I thought about what I would do if I was in their shoes. I’m not quite sure but I think the movie clip said that the people were not going into the buildings anymore and that they were just lying around in the streets. It might be because they are afraid the buildings will collapse again and they will fall with it again. I don’t think any of us can imagine how terrifying it would be for the people in China and the people who are buried under the ground. I think we should pray for all of them so that they can recover fast and they can go back to living their regular lives. I really hope that the weather will calm down so that more help can come to China and I also hope that all the survivors will be found safe and they won’t be injured too much. God probably made this disastrous thing happen for a reason. Maybe more Christians will be able to go into China and preach the gospel for the fearful people. Anyways, so many people have died and so many people are injured severely. This is a great tragedy for China and we should all try to be more aware of what can happen. Well this was an interesting blog topic…
OMG! I can't imagine if something like this happened in Korea. I remember a few days ago i watching tv with my dad and we saw a women who had survived but couldn't find her daughter after 3 whole days. Can you imagine that kind of grief? I am glad the government is helping a lot but i think if they are going to recover from a catastrophe this big other countries need to help out as well. I personally have never been in an earthquake, except a small one, and even that scared me. This is related to class because we studied china and we talked about the olympics in china.
I think though that if the buildings and government were more prepared for events like this it would have been less damaging to the people and the country.
There are thousands of people suffering in the underground ruins of China this moment. After the massive earthquake stroke China, there is much chaos going around the country. I think this event shows us how unfortune can strike anytime (Unfortune can meet us in unexpected situations). The Chinese government must have learned about how they had to keep their country ready at all times.
The real sad thing in the articles was that there were so many weeping people who were devistated about their fate or their loved one's fate. Natural disasters can turn out to be a unfair and victimizing event. Those people have done nothing wrong for the earthquake and are all innocent and are minding their own lives. That earthquake strikes and all those innocent people meet disaster for no reason. China is also getting ready for the olympics. I'm not sure but, the earthquake might have destroyed some buildings for the festival. And the government must have a hard time getting all the matters into their hands and having all the people around the world breathing down their backs. The olympics, the earthquake, the citizens, people of the world...
All together, I feel sorry for the Chinese people and wish for them to heal quikly and recover their strength and stableness.
sry Mr. Mac!!! I thought already posted it but I guess not. Anywayss, Wow!!!! I never knew about this until I read it. Anyways, it is a terrible thing that many people died. I can’t believe that it was a 7.8 magnitude!! After reading another article, I was very shocked to hear that a woman jumped off the 30th floor!!! Sooo, i guess it was really bad. I hope that nothing like this happens again. I also think that this is terrible because the Olympics are coming up and China is going through so much trouble!!! well, I hope that they will be able to recover soon!!! I think that Mr. Mac chose to post these articles/videos because he wanted us to know about what was going around us and also becuase this relates to what we were studying before.
Whoa, this is shocking. A 7.8 magnitude earthquake was just a big disaster, but that
earthquake hitting where so many populations are located? It’s not good news. The damage done to China because of this earthquake was great. If it was a strong earthquake, it wouldn’t have harmed them this much. However a 7.8 magnitude is so close to the highest magnitude in Rector Scale. I felt a bit good because the government did something right away when this happened. If they didn’t do anything I think that the disaster would have been larger. But I felt sad because just in one second this earthquake just made people really miserable and destroyed everything. I think there would have been less damage if the people had more knowledge to how to survive well in the earthquakes. I also felt really sad for those children who were in school when this earthquake happened. I think Mr. McAllister put this up to tell us that this tragic event actually happened near our country. This relates to our class because we are studying about Asia and China came out. I hope that China would recover fast from this
earthquake.
This earthquake was a major disaster for China. I cannot believe how the eathquake had brought down almost 80 percent of the buildings of the city near the affected area. I feel so terrible for the people in China who are stuck beneath the rubble and cement. The experience would be terrifying. And thinking of the fact that there are still people caught underneath makes me feel so sad. I have experienced many huge earthquakes before, but I have never been in such a bad earthquake! I believe it was right for the president to take immediate action and to accept the help of other countries. For the Myanmar disaster the government of the country did not accept help at first. China made the right move. Mothers, fathers, children, grandparents, cousins, and so many other relatives of people have been lost due to this horrible event. I desperately hope that many more people will be found even though many are dead. I also hope that the people who are still caught beneath the rubble will not lose hope and try their hardest to not give up. I think Mr McAllister posted this blog because this event is a event that affects everyone of us. Some of the kids in our grade have lived in China. Also we have learned alot about China in our social studies book and China is a very close country. It relates to something we have done in class because China is a regular discussion in our class and we have learned alot about China.
That is really shocking, but alot of tragic things happen like this...in Japanese news, it said that a school colapsed and students and teachers were killed, and it even made the countries money go down 2.3%
Many peole believe that an earthquake is not that big of a proble, just a small shake, but this shows that it can kill people and can have a large inpact in lives.
I think that mr mc sjowed us this because it relates to what we learned about before in class.
That was me (jennifer carrillo)
a 7.8 magnitude earthquake should be very disastrous event and it also attacked one of the most populated place. It killed over 12000 people so far. there were 50000 people who went to rescue, but not many have arrived to the site. Even students got killed, which is another sad news. So many innocent people got killed. After seeing the pictures, it was such a big distruction, and the damage was too big. However, the reason why so many died was because they didn't know what to do when there was an earthquake. People who actually survived are suffering from aftershocks and fear. I think you posted this so that we can what happened to our nearby country and that it could have affected us in a way.
